Make your Base44 app production-ready
Base44 builds full-stack internal tools and SaaS quickly. The questions that follow are about ownership: where the data lives, who can reach it, and what happens when you outgrow the platform.
Authorization enforced in the interface but not at the data layer, so the API returns other tenants' records.

Where Base44 apps break in production
What actually goes wrong, and why you would not have spotted it yourself. These are the findings we file most often, not a generic checklist.
- Finding 01
Your data is shaped for the platform, not your business
Schemas optimized for the builder's conventions rather than for your query patterns, which gets expensive as data grows.
Platform-shaped data model
- Finding 02
Staff can see things only an owner should
Access control that is right at the page level but wrong at the record level, so users can reach data belonging to other accounts.
Coarse permissions
- Finding 03
When it breaks, nobody can tell you why
When something fails there is no trace, no structured log, and no way to reconstruct what happened.
Limited observability
- Finding 04
Getting your own data out is a project, not a button
No tested path to get your data and logic out, which turns any future migration into a rescue project.
Export as an afterthought
The Base44 fix list
Most of this is fixable inside Base44. We only recommend migrating when the numbers say so - and even then, the export path is worth building on the day you decide to stay.
- Model the data around your real access patterns and add the missing indexes
- Enforce authorization at the data layer, not only in the UI
- Add tracing, structured logs, and error tracking with alerting
- Build and test a repeatable export path for data and configuration
- Introduce CI/CD, environments, and code review around changes
- Plan and execute a migration to your own cloud when it pays for itself
A typical Base44 engagement
Durations from real projects of comparable size. The check is free and everything after it is quoted as fixed scope, so you know the price before we start.

Production Check
3–5 daysWe create an account per role and exercise every endpoint with each one, then compare what the interface shows against what the API returns.
- 2
Close the record-level gaps
Week 1Authorization enforced per object type at the data layer rather than per screen, tenant boundaries made explicit, and the access matrix turned into repeatable tests so a new field or a new role cannot quietly open a hole.
- 3
Data model, indexes, observability
Week 1–3We reshape the collections your slow screens actually query and add the indexes that were never there.
- 4
An exit that exists on paper
Week 3–4A scripted export of data and configuration, run on a schedule into storage you own and restored once to prove it works.
What you keep
Everything we produce belongs to you. If you stop working with us tomorrow, nothing stops running and nothing becomes unmaintainable.
Your accounts and your code
The repository, the cloud accounts, the database and the domain stay in your name.
The report, whatever you decide next
Findings, severity ratings, reproduction steps and effort estimates, written for an engineer.
Infrastructure written down
The environment is defined as code in your repository and comes with a runbook: how to deploy, how to roll back, how to restore, and what to check first.
A tested way out
Even if you stay on Base44 for years, you finish the engagement with a scripted export of data and configuration that has actually been run and restored.
Base44 questions we get asked
If yours is not here, ask it on the call. The first one is free and there is no obligation afterwards.
Yes. Where we cannot read source, we test behaviour: an account per role, every endpoint exercised with every token, identifiers swapped to see what comes back, and the export surface probed for what it will and will not give you.
We build an access matrix - every object type down one axis, every role across the other - then call the API as each role and record what it returns.
Usually not yet. The platform is doing real work for you, and migrating early trades a working product for a rebuild.
Most of it: record-level authorization, the data model and indexes behind slow screens, error handling, tracing and alerting, integration reliability, and the export path.
Built with something else as well?
Most apps we see are two or three of these stacked together - a builder on the front, a hosted database behind it, and an agent editing both.
- Lovable
React and Supabase from a chat prompt. The access rules are the risk.
View playbook - Replit
Agent-built code in a repl. The runtime, the disk and the secrets all change.
View playbook - Claude Code
Real code in your own repo. The gaps are operational, not syntactic.
View playbook - Cursor
Code you own, written fast, by an agent holding your credentials.
View playbook - Bolt.new
A full-stack app in an afternoon. The last twenty per cent is auth and data rules.
View playbook - v0
The best-looking React in the category, usually wired to mock data.
View playbook - Bubble
Visual apps at real revenue, hitting workload units and privacy rules.
View playbook - Supabase
Great production database, rarely configured like one.
View playbook - Firebase
Auth and a database in an afternoon. The rules and the bill arrive later.
